Power China Solar Project
De Aar Central Solar Plant (POWERCHINA) • 342 MW, Northern Cape
A transformative solar power initiative, this 342 MW installation, under EPC by POWERCHINA, will be among the largest single-unit solar plants in South Africa. Set in De Aar, Northern Cape, it will deliver substantial clean energy to data centres and commercial & industrial users, helping to de-risk demand and support the region’s green growth.

REISA Kathu Solar Power Project
REISA Kathu Solar PV Project • 75 MW, Northern Cape
One of the pioneering utility-scale solar PV power plants in South Africa, the REISA Kathu project is a 75 MW facility located between Deben and Kathu in the Northern Cape. It comprises over 343,200 solar modules spanning 210 hectares, feeding clean power into Eskom’s grid via the Fox switching station since August 2014. Generating approximately 179,000 MWh per year, it supplies enough energy for around 73,000 medium-income homes.
Beyond energy, REISA Kathu strengthens communities through sustainable enterprise development and local socio-economic programs. The Kathu Solar Community Trust ensures neighbouring towns participate in growth and benefit across infrastructure, education and welfare.

Letsatsi Solar PV Power Plant /
Letsatsi Solar PV Power Plant • 64 MW (AC), Free State
Commissioned in 2014 under South Africa’s first round of the REIPPP, the Letsatsi Power Project is a 64 MW_AC photovoltaic plant located near Bloemfontein on Jedwater Farm. With an output of about 140 GWh/year, Letsatsi supplies clean, affordable power for roughly 65,000 homes, and is backed by a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with Eskom.
The project is more than energy: Letsatsi drives local economic impact via skills development, enterprise creation, and community engagement in the Manguang and Tokologo municipalities.

Reisa Kathu Solar Power Project
Kathu Solar Park • 100 MW CSP with Thermal Storage, Northern Cape
A flagship concentrated solar power project, Kathu Solar Park was commissioned in January 2019. Using parabolic trough technology and molten salt storage to offer 4.5 hours of energy output post-sunset, this 100 MW installation transforms solar energy into dispatchable power.
Extending across ~4.5 km² with about 384,000 mirrored reflectors, Kathu supplies clean electricity to approximately 179,000 households and avoids millions of tonnes of CO₂ emissions over its lifespan. As part of REIPPP Round 3.5, Kathu is both an engineering landmark and a driver of long-term socio-economic benefit in the region.

Kenya Solar Water Farm
Ukunda Solar Water Farm • Kenya
Bringing renewable solutions to water scarcity: this solar-powered water farm supplies up to 15,000 liters of clean, potable water daily, benefitting over 38,000 residents of Ukunda, Kenya. By combining solar technology with water purification and delivery systems, this project creates essential social infrastructure — improving health, livelihoods and resilience in a water-stressed region.

Solar Karoo
The Kalkbult solar farm (north of De Aar, in the Karoo) is described as South Africa’s first solar farm. Built by Scatec, ~75 MW capacity. Construction began in 2012 and completed ~10 months later, ahead of schedule. Covers ~105 hectares. Has access to 132 kV power line, and uses substation infrastructure already present on the land.
